Paylines vs Ways to Win

When choosing a slot, you’ll see two ways wins are counted: paylines and ways to win. Understanding the difference helps you know what you’re playing.

Paylines are set patterns across the reels — a win requires matching symbols landing on a specific line, usually from left to right. A slot might have 10, 20 or 243 fixed lines. You often bet per line, so more lines can mean a higher total stake.

Ways to win removes fixed lines entirely. Any matching symbols on adjacent reels (from the left) pay, regardless of position. A ‘243 ways’ slot pays whenever symbols line up on consecutive reels. Megaways takes this further, with the number of ways changing every spin.
